One person who did not listen to Jordan’s cautionary tale, his name is Sam Bankman Fried. Jordan Belfort picks up on this in an interview with Fox News, where he claims, “This guy [Sam Bankman Fried] has got diarrhea of the mouth” (Business Insider). Sam Bankman Fried laundered billions of dollars and defrauded his investors through his company FTX. The company was so big that even Tom Brady was in a commercial for them. Many would argue that of course, Jordan Belfort knows what to do in his situation. They both committed similar crimes. Although I could agree they are similar crimes. The state of the world we live in is different compared to Jordan Belfort. In the part about regulations, I mention that Jordan’s era was less empowered. The lag between occurrence and information received was greater than it is today. That state of the world can be denoted as Ꙍ1,where getting caught was harder per se. In Ꙍ2, auditors and regulators have better technology to catch on to financial crimes. The damage done by Sam Bankman Fried’s crimes is in the billions. Some could object to my views and interpret it as defending Jordan Belfort. Therefore, to clarify in other words, Jordan Belfort is relevant today, because many could learn from his story. If he did not come up with his memoir and movie, many could be blinded by their own greed and commit similar crimes. As Is in the case of Sam Bankman Fried. Despite technological advances, history repeats by avoiding cautionary tales.
